2020 Review - August

 2020 Review - August

The month began with an evening run to Groomsport to shoot some black and white on the FujiXT20 with the lcd screen set to monochrome to help me see in B&W as I hadn't done much and was used to thinking in colour.

This one demanded colour

A couple of visits to Grey Point produced colourful sunsets

And a container ship entering Belfast Lough and just catching the end of the light.

Visits to the Mourne Mountains continued but without anything much to show photographically.

A small cascade with the summer colours of heather and whins

Post-lockdown the Mournes became a honey pot for people unable to get exercise through team sports, gyms etc or who could not get away on holiday.  The image below shows only some of the cars parked on the Slievenaman Road which provides easy access via the Ott track.  That day we counted 90 cars on the road with another 10 or so in the carpark.  I had never seen so many people in the mountains before.

Finally, I received my copy of the Irish Peaks book produced by Mountaineering Ireland which featured one of my images on the front cover and a couple more inside.  The cover picture taken on a Canon G10 in 2010 shows the descent from Mweelrea in Connemara, with Killary Harbour in the middle distance and the 12 Bens in the far distance and features my colleague Brian White.   This beautifully produced book contains routes on the 100 highest mountains in Ireland and is well illustrated with many fine photographs.  Many thanks to Helen Lawless of Mountaineering Ireland.
